The report highlights increasing cases of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, suicides, and protest sit-ins by families of forcibly disappeared persons.

Enforced Disappearances and Suicides

In June 2024, the Pakistani army detained 54 individuals across 12 districts of Balochistan. The month also witnessed a tragic suicide linked to the psychological trauma inflicted by enforced disappearances and torture by the Pakistani military.

Notable Cases

Suicide of Aqeel Ahmed

Date and Location: June 20, 2024, Mulai Bazar Turbat

The trauma led Aqeel to take his own life. His case is emblematic of the severe psychological impact on Baloch youth, many of whom have experienced similar brutality.

Psychological Impact

A conversation with a well-known psychologist revealed that Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has reached epidemic levels in Balochistan. Enforced disappearances, torture, and military operations have caused widespread psychological trauma, manifesting in:

  • PTSD: Victims frequently relive their traumatic experiences, suffering constant fear and torment.
  • Depression: A prevalent condition, driven by hopelessness and helplessness, often leading to suicide.
  • Anxiety and Fear: Constant military aggression has instilled a pervasive sense of fear and anxiety among the populace.

Extrajudicial Killings

The report details ongoing extrajudicial killings by Pakistani forces, a practice that continues alongside enforced disappearances. These actions perpetuate a climate of fear and repression in Balochistan.

Protest Sit-Ins and Demonstrations

Protests against extrajudicial actions and enforced disappearances have intensified, particularly in the Makuran division.
